Registration month on the horizontal axis; vehicles on the vertical axis. Festival timing and late registrations can create sharp monthly moves.
India auto sales tracker: registrations, retail and the caveats.
VAHAN registrations and FADA retail releases provide an earlier view of vehicle activity than quarterly financials. They are evidence about demand—not a substitute for revenue, margins or valuation.
Aug 2026 VAHAN registrations.
September is still accruing, so the headline comparison uses the latest completed month. Historical VAHAN values can be revised when late RTO records arrive.
The chain from a registration to shareholder value runs through company/category mapping, market share, model mix, realization, discounts, dealer inventory, input costs and capital employed. A clean demand signal can coexist with a weak profit outcome.
Registrations mapped to listed auto manufacturers.
These are summed registration entities mapped by Altys to the NSE symbol. They can include several legal or brand rows and should be reconciled with each company’s reported wholesales and segment disclosures.

Two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.
National totals can conceal very different category cycles. The three lines share a unit, not an economic driver.
Monthly FADA retail registrations. A shared scale makes category size visible; read category growth separately.
Questions about VAHAN and FADA.
Is VAHAN registration data the same as auto sales?
No. VAHAN records registrations on the transport system. It is closer to retail registration activity than factory wholesale dispatches, but timing, late RTO uploads, temporary registrations and coverage can create differences.
Why does the current VAHAN month look unusually low?
The current calendar month accrues day by day. Altys excludes it from closed-month comparisons and labels it as a nowcast so a partial month is never compared with a completed month.
What is the difference between VAHAN and FADA data?
VAHAN is the underlying government registration dashboard. FADA publishes monthly retail releases with national category and OEM tables. Definitions, release dates and revision behaviour differ, so the tracker shows them as separate series.
Can registration growth predict an auto stock?
Not by itself. Investors must connect registrations to category mix, company mapping, market share, realization, discounts, inventory, exports, margins and the valuation already embedded in the share price.
