The problem we are working on

The article opens with a familiar results-season challenge. An analyst has filings, conference-call transcripts, reports and commentary to work through. Before forming a view, they spend hours collecting information and reconciling numbers.

Altys is built around that research workflow: reading company documents, working with financial models, developing investment theses and monitoring holdings, with people retaining control. The feature also examines why context matters. A firm’s earlier assumptions and decisions should inform its next research task.

We’re pleased to share this account of the problem we are working on and the direction we are taking.

About Altys

Altys Labs builds AI-assisted equity research and investment governance software for Indian investment teams. Our focus is on connecting the work that happens between finding an idea, researching a business and keeping an investment thesis current.

On the platform, teams can work with company research, define strategies and scorecards, compare shortlisted companies, test strategies through time and configure alerts. Their models, notes, assumptions and past decisions provide context for subsequent research.

Our public stance is straightforward: evidence should be inspectable. Financial calculations should have identified inputs, material research claims should carry sources, and historical analysis should respect what was knowable at the time. Teams can export core outputs to inspect the work in Excel.

People remain responsible for the judgment. The analyst decides which assumptions are reasonable. The portfolio manager decides how a finding fits the mandate. The investment committee decides what action, if any, follows.

What a useful research workflow should help you answer

Consider a team revisiting a company after quarterly results. The useful questions go beyond whether revenue rose or fell. Was the result consistent with the expectation the team recorded? Which part of the business explains the difference? Does the evidence suggest a temporary change, or something that deserves a closer look?

A good research process makes those questions easier to investigate. The original expectation needs to be accessible. The new result needs a clear source. The analyst needs room to record an interpretation, distinguish it from the reported facts and identify what evidence would change that interpretation.

The same applies when two people disagree. One may focus on cash conversion, another on demand, and a third on valuation. Recording the assumptions behind each view gives the team something concrete to revisit. It also makes a handover more useful: the next analyst can follow the reasoning and ask where it still holds.

For an investment team evaluating research software, a practical starting point is one real workflow. Choose a company already under coverage, a question that matters to the team and an output someone needs to review. Check whether the sources are accessible, whether the output can be inspected and whether the work helps the next person continue the investigation.

That is a more useful conversation than a generic demonstration. The work has a reader, a purpose and a standard of evidence. The team can judge the result against its own process.
