FIIs Are Buying Again. What Has Changed in Indian Equities?
Four sessions of foreign buying changed India's flow picture. Examine the dated cash-market numbers, domestic selling and the limits of a short reversal.
Foreign investors were net buyers in each of the four observed cash-market sessions from 30 October to 4 November 2026. That is a change in recent transactions, not proof of a lasting allocation shift or a forecast that Indian shares will keep rising.
Data cutoff: 4 November close. Published 5 November 2026. The selected window contains 30 October and 2, 3 and 4 November. It is not a five-day trading week.
What the reported transactions show
The daily rows published by ICICI Direct total ₹20,834.06 crore of FII net buying and ₹8,600.79 crore of DII net selling. The download retains each day’s gross purchases and sales, so the totals can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Altys interpretation: the immediate change is that the two categories traded in opposite net directions. It would be premature to turn that observation into a story about one group being right and the other wrong. The table does not identify the securities, mandates, funding decisions or entry prices behind those transactions.
A cash-market flow is not an ownership register
A daily activity number measures trading over a period. A company’s shareholding disclosure measures ownership at a stated date. The two answer different questions.
An overseas fund can buy one company while selling another. A positive market-wide number therefore cannot establish that foreign ownership increased in a particular bank, consumer business or IT company. A change in ownership percentage can also depend on the company’s share count and the reporting perimeter.
For a company-specific discussion, the next evidence is its exchange-filed shareholding pattern and any relevant disclosed transaction. The FII/DII ownership analysis explains why those observations need their own dates.
Prices moved too, but that does not settle the cause
Our companion market-participation report compares official index closes across a separately labelled window. It asks whether the rise extended beyond the largest constituents rather than assuming that a benchmark gain represents every portfolio.
Altys interpretation: prices and institutional transactions can respond to the same new information. A purchase may follow an improving outlook, accompany an index rebalance or reflect a mandate-specific decision. Their coexistence does not isolate how much of a price change was caused by foreign buying.
This also limits the phrase “profit booking”. It sounds plausible when domestic institutions sell into a rise, but proving it requires evidence about their motives and acquisition costs. A net-sales table supplies neither.
What would make the change more meaningful?
Persistence matters, but the test needs more than another positive day. A longer dated window, the securities involved, ownership disclosures and the underlying business results would help distinguish a trading episode from a broader change in positioning.
For an Indian investment team, the useful follow-up is specific: did a company’s reported demand, funding or cash generation change, or did only its trading environment change? Those developments can happen together, but they should remain separate entries in the research record.
The NSE methodology distinguishes provisional trading activity from final FPI reporting. It also distinguishes the exchange-only and combined-exchange datasets. This article retains the broker table’s provenance rather than relabelling it as a directly verified exchange download.
Keep the evidence attached to the conclusion
The Excel-readable inputs include all eight category-date observations and gross/net checks. Missing table publication timestamps are left unavailable; retrieval date is not presented as release date.
Altys helps research teams revisit companies as new filings and operating disclosures arrive. Use monitoring to check whether the business evidence changed, not to convert a flow headline into an automatic investment instruction. Request access, or start with the existing FII/DII reading guide.

Frequently asked questions
How much did FIIs buy between 30 October and 4 November 2026?
The four dated ICICI Direct cash-activity rows sum to ₹20,834.06 crore of FII net purchases. This is a selected four-session window, not a completed weekly or monthly total, and the broker-published figures are treated as provisional.
Does DII selling mean institutions are booking profits?
Net transaction data do not identify the seller's motive or cost basis. Rebalancing, redemptions and other portfolio decisions can also produce net sales.
Do FII purchases prove that a rally will continue?
No. They describe transactions already reported, not future orders, company earnings or subsequent market direction.
